ABOUT

"Katahdin Area Council contains 17,981 square miles, making it the largest council in land area east of the Mississippi. With nearly 3000 adults and 6000 youth, Katahdin Area Council has one of the highest adult-youth ratios in the country. There are 6 Districts which make up the council: Hancock, North Star, Penquis, PV, Waldo and Washington."

The Fort Kent Cub Scouts are part of the North Star District which includes scouts from all over the Aroostook County. Currently the Fort Kent Pack is the largest in the North Star District. Our charter organization is the Fort Kent Knights of Columbus with Ronnie Jandreau executive director.

Why does a boy need scouting?  To provide an opportunity for a wonderful experience that we cannot give them alone by developing character, personality, and strength. It helps the individual to think for himself and work as a team. They learn by experience in an organization high in ideals, leadership, and commuity service.

There are 5 levels in Cub Scouts.

  • Tigers - ages 5 & 6 or Grade 1
  • Wolves - ages 6-7 or Grade 2
  • Bears - ages 7 & 8 or Grade 3
  • Webelos I - ages 8 & 9 or Grade 4
  • Webelos II - ages 9 & 10 or Grade 5

Each level is called a den and all the dens come together to form the pack. The dens meet monthly to go over different requirements needed to advance to the next level. Den meetings may consist of visiting a location in the community, listening to guest speakers or working on projects. The pack gets together once a month for larger activites such as the Pinewood Derby, Sail Boat Regatta and Advancements. The year starts in August and finishes in May. Come be a part of Scouting.
